Duncan Seeks Applicants for the
Upcounty Citizens Advisory Board

County Executive Douglas M. Duncan is seeking applicants to fill eight vacancies on the Upcounty Citizens Advisory Board. Seven are full-term vacancies for positions expiring in May 2003; one is for a term expiring in May 2002. Seven incumbents are eligible to apply for reappointment.

The Citizens Advisory Board represents more than 250,000 residents in the upcounty area, north of Shady Grove Road and including the communities of Clarksburg, Damascus, Gaithersburg, Germantown and Poolesville.

The 20-member board advises the Director of the Upcounty Regional Services Center, the County Executive, and County Council on area needs and priorities such as transportation, human services, environment, public safety, and other issues of local importance. It also reviews and comments on the County's capital and operating budgets and master plans; assists with strategies to tailor services to regional needs; and conducts workshops and forums. Some members represent the Board on other ad hoc committees.

Members serve three-year terms without compensation, meeting one Monday evening of each month and occasionally on Saturdays at the Upcounty Regional Services Center in Germantown. Members are expected to serve on at least one subcommittee which meets approximately one evening every month on its own schedule.

Applicants should write by March 24 to County Executive Douglas M. Duncan at the Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe Street, Rockville, MD 20850. A brief resume, with home and work telephone numbers, should be enclosed, detailing pertinent experience and business, civic or community group associations. Minorities and youth are encouraged to apply. Members of County boards, committees, and commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time.

Duncan's appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council. Applications of those selected for appointment are made public as part of the confirmation process.
