Award-winning history writer
To speak at Silver Spring Library
Virginia Laas, author of "Love and Power in the Nineteenth Century: the Marriage of Violet Blair," will be featured as part of the Friends of the Library Speakers Series at the Silver Spring Library on April 6, beginning at 8 p.m. The library is located at 8901 Colesville Rd.
Violet Blair, a Silver Spring resident, was the niece of Montgomery Blair, postmaster general of the United States during the Lincoln administration. Dr. Laas, associate professor of History at Missouri Southern State College, also wrote "Wartime Washington: The Civil War Letters of Elizabeth Blair Lee." "Love and Power…" has received the Best Book Award from the Missouri Conference on History.
The Silver Spring Historical Society is co-sponsor of the program.
