Mock Trial to Examine Legal
Issues in Fair Housing

As part of National Fair Housing Month, the Montgomery County Human Relations Commission is sponsoring a mock trial on Thursday, April 13 at 6 p.m., at the Montgomery County Judicial Center, 50 Maryland Avenue, in the third floor Ceremonial Courtroom, of the Circuit Court in Rockville.

Judge Paul McGuckian will preside over the mock trial. Local attorney David Blackwood will be representing the "defendant," who has entered into an agreement with a realtor to handle the rental of his property but has stipulated who the property will be made available to. Members of the Montgomery County Attorney's Office will also participate. The exercise will be complete with witnesses and a six-person jury.

The trial is focused on the interests of tenants, lawyers, realtors, property managers and landlords. Co-sponsors of the trial include the County Attorney's Office, Department of Housing and Community Affairs, Commission on Common Ownership Communities, Apartment and Office Building Association, Rockville Human Rights Commission, Washington Metropolitan Chapter of the Community Association Institute, Housing Opportunities Commission and the Greater Capital Area Association of Realtors.

Registration for the event is $10 and begins at 6 p.m. The trial starts at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by a discussion of the legal implications of the case while the jury is deliberating.

For more information, or to pre-register, call the Human Relations Commission at 240-777-8478.
