Improved Bus Service From
Norbeck Park/Ride Lot Begins January 15
Starting January 15, expanded Metrobus service between the Norbeck Park and Ride Lot to the Glenmont Metro station will make commuting from the Olney area to Silver Spring and Washington D.C. easier, and may alleviate overcrowding at the Glenmont parking garage.
At Montgomery County's suggestion, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) Board approved rerouting of some buses to give commuters using the Norbeck Park and Ride Lot more frequent service. In addition to the Y7 bus that currently serves the lot, Y8 and Y9 Metrobuses will also stop at the Norbeck lot located at Norbeck Rd. and Georgia Ave., increasing southbound service frequency between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. to every seven minutes. At other times in the morning, buses run every 15 minutes. During the evening, northbound bus service is already provided every seven minutes.
Parking in the Norbeck lot is free. Bus fare between the lot and the Glenmont Metro Station is $1.35 roundtrip, compared with the $2.25 parking fee at Glenmont.
For more information about Metrobus service between the Norbeck Park and Ride Lot and the Glenmont Metro station, call Metro at 202-637-7000, or the County's Transit Information Center at 240-777-7433. Bus schedule information is also available on the County's web site at www.dpwt.com and on Metro's web site at www.wmata.com.
