Community Use of Public Facilities Holds
After School Provider Fair
An After School Provider Fair will be held on Wednesday, January 31 (snow date Wednesday, February 7), from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., to give commercial, private, government, for-profit and non-profit groups a chance to promote their services to Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) interested in contracting for after-school activities. The fair, hosted by the County's Office of Community Use of Public Facilities (CUPF), will be held at the University System of Maryland, Shady Grove Conference Center, 9630 Gudelsky Drive, Building II, Rockville.
The fair will give groups a chance to display information about how they can provide after-school activities for elementary, middle and high schools. These groups will share their objectives, activities, and suggestions for building partnerships with schools in an effort to teach leadership, character, and discipline building skills, support the academic program, and/or mentor students during after school hours. School administrators, teachers and PTA members are encouraged to attend the Fair.
The After School Provider Fair supports the Federal Support to Communities Initiative, which focuses on community youth development and after school programs. This Initiative, launched in 1997 by the domestic Cabinet secretaries, focuses on after school programming. The hours between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. are the peak hours when juvenile crime occurs, and approximately five million children are unsupervised during non-school hours. The intent of this fair is to link groups that provide opportunities for supervised activities with school staff and PTA members.
Interested individuals or organizations should contact Becky Nelson at 240-777-2731 to reserve a table. There is a $50 fee for space to set up a display.
Individuals interested in attending the Fair should RSVP by calling 240-777-2731. This will ensure that enough materials will be available.
