County Offers Automobile
Repair Classes to Public
The Montgomery County Division of Consumer Affairs (DCA) is again offering its popular four-part Consumer Auto Repair Seminar (CARS), beginning on Wednesday, April 25. The seminar is being held on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m., April 25, May 2 and 9, in the cafeteria located in the Council Office Building, 100 Maryland Avenue, Rockville. The fourth session is a hands-on class and will be held on Saturday, May 12 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Courtesy Jeep, 755 Rockville Pike, Rockville. All classes will be conducted by DCA investigative staff with guest speakers from the automotive repair industry.
The seminar is aimed at consumers with little or no automotive knowledge. It is designed to take some of the mystery out of how an automobile operates, what precautions should be taken to prevent problems from occurring, and how to communicate with automobile mechanics when repairs are needed.
Consumers will learn, in non-technical terms, how the engine, brakes, and other mechanical systems work and the maintenance necessary to keep them trouble-free. The classes will also cover how to safely jump-start your car, how and when to check your oil and tire pressure, how to protect your car from rust and maintain its appearance, and tips on how to get better gas mileage and save money.
The classes, which are limited to Montgomery County residents, are free of charge, but pre-registration is required. To register, or for more information, call 240-777-3764.
