County Sponsors April 4 Event
To Celebrate Public Health Week
The public is invited to attend a lunchtime lecture in celebration of Public Health Week, to be held Wednesday, April 4 at White Flint Mall’s center court. The event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will feature talks by state and national public health officials on health disparities and disparities in tobacco use.
Speakers will be Dr. Marilyn Gaston, associate director of the Bureau of Primary Health Care, Health Resources and Services Administration, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Dr. Georges Benjamin, secretary of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
The Montgomery County Commission on Health will also present awards to the Montgomery County Council for their efforts in passing legislation requiring retailers to place tobacco products out of reach of adolescents (Bill 23-00) and to Students Opposed to Smoking (SOS) for their work on behalf of Bill 23-00.
