Duncan Hails Approval of
Newbridge Senior Housing Project
County Executive Douglas M. Duncan today applauded the County’s Board of Appeals decision to approve a senior housing project located on Newbridge Drive in Potomac. Duncan spoke out in support of this and two other senior housing projects last year and has put affordable senior housing high on his priority list as part of the newly revised County housing policy.
“I can think of no better way to thank my parents’ generation than to make living in Montgomery County affordable for those who worked so hard and sacrificed so much,” said Duncan. “I am very pleased that the Victory Housing project was approved, and I am hopeful that the other projects will be approved so that we can increase our supply of affordable senior housing increases.”
Victory Housing, Inc., the non-profit housing arm of the Archdiocese of Washington, will develop the project, comprised of 72 units. Victory Housing has developed and currently operates seven assisted living facilities, six in Montgomery County and one in Prince George’s County. Victory Housing has also developed two apartment communities for independent low-income seniors in Prince George’s County.
Rents for at least one half of the apartments will be set at levels affordable to residents with incomes of 60 percent of less than the area median income. Rents for the remaining apartments will be set at market rates.
Representatives of Victory Housing met for nearly two years with residents of the adjoining neighborhood and negotiated several changes to the original plans. Current plans call for preservation of 80 percent of the woods on the 16-acre site to surround the 48-foot tall building.
The complex will also include a television lounge, beauty salon and barbershop, computer room and wellness center.
