Duncan Seeks Applicants
for WSSC Vacancy

Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan is seeking applicants for one vacancy on the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission.

The six-member Commission, consisting of three members from Montgomery County and three from Prince George's County, works to regulate the public water supply, pollution control, plumbing, and gas fittings and wastewater treatment.

The law requires that no more than two members from Montgomery County may be of the same political party. Current commission members include a Republican and two Democrats. The incumbent whose term is expiring is a Democrat.

Members serve four-year terms with an annual compensation of $13,000. Scheduled meetings are held every other Wednesday from approximately 12 noon to 4:30 p.m. There are also special meetings, worksessions, budget briefings and public hearings scheduled as necessary. Applicants will be required to complete a State financial disclosure statement and will be interviewed by the County Attorney's Office to determine any conflict of interest. Appointees must be residents of and registered voters in Montgomery County.

Interested applicants should write by February 2, 2001 to County Executive Douglas M. Duncan at the Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe Street, Rockville, MD 20850. Applicants should enclose a resume including home and work telephone numbers, and state their political affiliation. Members of County boards, committees, and commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time.

Duncan's appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council.
