Ride-On Bus System's Mural Contest
Open to Sixth-Grade Art Students

Sixth-grade art students from Montgomery County public and private schools are invited to enter the Ride On bus system's 15th Annual Mural Contest, which is an integral part of the County's celebration of Earth Day in April and National Transportation Week in May.

The contest was created to help instill in the next generation of commuters an awareness of the importance of using buses, carpools, vanpools, trains, and even bicycles. The theme of this year's contest is "Show You Care for Cleaner Air."

Entries must be created and completed by the students and should be no larger than 6-feet wide x 3-feet high. The murals should depict two or more people riding together in one or more forms of transportation, and must also feature the hand-lettered words "Ride On."

The first place winner will receive an escorted field trip on a Ride On bus to a local destination. Past field trips have been taken to the Goddard Space Flight Center, U.S. Naval Academy, and the Air Show at Andrews Air Force Base. Winners will also receive Ride On 20-Trip Tickets, good for 20 rides anytime, and Youth Cruiser Passes, entitling the student to unlimited trips on Ride On for an entire month. Both types of passes are available from Ride On for only $10.

Specially printed bus cards showing the winning mural and the students who created the mural will be displayed on Ride On buses in April, May, and June 2001.

All murals must be submitted no later than Thursday, February 22, 2001, to the Division of Transit Services, 101 Monroe Street, 5th Floor, Rockville, MD 20850.

For more information, contact the marketing unit of the Division of Transit Services at 240-777-5800. For information on Ride On schedules and services, check the County's website at www.RideOnbus.com or call the Transit Information Center at 240-777-7433.
