Nachman Named Policy Officer for
Health and Human Services
Gail Nachman has been named chief policy officer for the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services. She will assume her new duties on September 10.
“I’m delighted that Gail is returning to human services, and particularly to the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS),” said DHHS director Charles L. Short. “She is an experienced professional in human services administration who has enriched her credentials with her broad community experience in Bethesda. Her success in forging partnerships with the faith, business and non-profit groups in Bethesda and western Montgomery County demonstrate her value to the work of this department.”
In her new position, Nachman will be responsible for developing DHHS policies, managing the continuing integration of services, coordinating the department’s work with the County Council and managing the fiscal and administrative functions of the department.
Nachman has served as the director of the Bethesda Regional Services Center since 1986. Prior to that she was chief of the Division of Services to Handicapped Individuals in the Department of Family Resources. In that position, she established the County’s Commission on People with Disabilities.
Nachman holds a master’s degree in social work from the University of Maryland School of Social Work.
She will replace Toko Ackerman, who is retiring.
