County’s eMontgomery Web Site
Recognized with National Award
Montgomery County’s online interactive service for citizens, eMontgomery recently received top honors in the seventh annual Best of the Web contest conducted by the Center for Digital Government and Government Technology magazine. With 400 state and local government entries submitted, Montgomery County received second place in the local government category, placing eMontgomery in the top one percent of the sites submitted.
“To be honored with this prestigious, national award only one year after eMontgomery was launched, is a testament to our significant commitment to change the way we deliver services by allowing citizens to conduct business online,” said County Executive Douglas M. Duncan.
“We are extremely pleased to have eMontgomery recognized with this national award,” said eGovernment Manager Kevin Novak. “Montgomery County is proud to be able to provide convenient and accessible online service to its citizens and we hope to continue expanding and improving this web site.”
Web sites were judged on innovation and use of web-based online technology to deliver government services, efficiency and time saved, economy and money saved, and functionality for improved citizen access.
The eMontgomery program was initially launched in July 2000, enabling citizens to track permits, apply for jobs, pay their property taxes, renew library materials, lease space in public facilities and view traffic video at specific intersections. Since that time, the site has expanded to include the sale of Ride On and Metrobus passes, maps and directions to service facilities, recreation class registration and payment of parking tickets.
