Duncan Seeks Applicants for
Eastern Region Recreation Advisory Board
County Executive Douglas M. Duncan is seeking applicants to fill several vacancies on the Eastern Region Recreation Advisory Board. Some of the vacancies are for alternate positions. Appointments may be for one, two or three year terms. This board advises the County Executive, County Council, and the Department of Recreation, and the Planning Board on regional recreation and park needs. The Board encourages the development of desirable parks and recreational opportunities, and advises and makes recommendations to appropriate officials on matters concerning budgets, recreation programs, services, and facilities.
The board currently is composed of 12 regular members and three alternates (legislation has been introduced to change the membership to 9 regular members and two alternates). Alternates serve in place of an absent member and assume a regular member’s position of there is a resignation. Members must reside in the eastern region of Montgomery County. This area includes the neighborhoods of Fairland, White Oak, Cloverly and Colesville. The service area is bordered on the north by Howard County, on the east by Prince George’s County, on the south by Interstate 495 and on the west along Northwest Branch stream to Ednor Road.
Members appointed to full terms serve for three years without compensation. Meetings are usually held the second Wednesday evening of the month in Silver Spring.
Interested residents should apply by October 19 to County Executive Douglas M. Duncan at the Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe Street, Rockville, MD 20850. A letter and brief resume, including work and home phone numbers, should be enclosed. Individuals who are minorities or who represent special population groups are encouraged to apply. Members of County boards, committees and commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time.
Duncan’s appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council. Applications of those selected for appointment are made public as part of the confirmation process.
