Twinbrook Library Presents
Cantaré: A Musical Journey to Latin America
CANTARÉ, a musical journey to Latin America, will perform at the Twinbrook Library on Saturday, November 3, at 2:00 p.m. as part of the Los Nuestros series sponsored by the Friends of the Library and funds from Live @ Your Library of the American Library Association.
Drawing from the musical heritage of Puerto Rico, Argentina, El Salvador, Peru, Brazil and Venezuela, Patricia Vergara and Cecilia Esquivel of Cantaré perform songs in Spanish and Portuguese, while sharing the music’s cultural and historical background. Audiences learn about the different cultures that have shaped the music of Latin America -- Native American, Spanish and African – while becoming familiar with the languages, rhythms and musical instruments of the region.
Both Patricia of Brazil and Cecilia of Argentina are active in the Washington area music scene and have extensive training in music education. As Cantaré, their music reveals a rich fusion of cultural traditions. The Discovery Theater of the Smithsonian Institution has called their performance “a delightful blend of beautifully performed music, audience participation, and fascinating facts. Good fun in two languages”!
The Twinbrook Library is located at 202 Meadow Hall Drive, Rockville. For more information call 240-777-0020.
