Duncan Seeks Applicants to Fill Vacancies
For the Committee on Hate/Violence

County Executive Douglas M. Duncan is seeking applications to fill five vacancies on the Committee on Hate/Violence. Four members are eligible to apply for reappointment.

The committee develops and distributes information about hate/violence in the county and promotes the positive value of ethnic and social diversity. The committee advises the County Executive, County Council, and County agencies about hate/violence in the county, and recommends policies, programs, legislation, or regulations to help reduce the incidence of such acts.

The committee consists of 15 voting members who are County residents and six ex-officio, non-voting members from government agencies, including Montgomery County Public Schools and Montgomery College.

The voting members reflect the geographic, economic, and social diversity of the County with at least nine members identified with target groups frequently victimized by hate/violence. At least two members are parents of school-age children and at least one member represents the business community. Members serve without compensation and meet the second Wednesday evening of the month in Rockville.

Interested citizens should write by November 16 to County Executive Douglas M. Duncan at the Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe Street, Rockville, MD 20850. A brief resume including both business and home telephone numbers should also be enclosed. Members of County boards, committees and commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time.

Duncan’s appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council. Applicants of those selected for appointment are made public as part of the confirmation process.
