The Montgomery County Business Resource Center (BRC), located in the Rockville Regional Library, has changed its name to the Montgomery County Small Business Development Center (SBDC). The Center provides focused services to small and mid-sized businesses in the County.
The name change should provide more awareness and recognition to the Center through the locally and nationally recognized SBDC name. The Maryland Small Business Development Center Network is one of the eight original partners instrumental in the formation of the BRC, and, along with the Montgomery County Department of Economic Development, provides operational funding to the Center.
"The small business community throughout the country is very familiar with
the programs and services of their local Small Business Development Center," said David W. Edgerley, director of the Department of Economic Development. "We want to make the most of that recognition and we think that changing the name is the best way to accomplish that."
The SBDC will still provide an array of small business services including individual counseling on business plan development, accounting and management techniques, loan packaging, marketing, and more. In addition, new and small business owners can still participate in a variety of training and business seminars offered through the SBDC in conjunction with the Montgomery County Department of Public Libraries and Montgomery College.
In an effort to better serve the clients of the SBDC, two new business counselors have been hired. Alvaro R. De Moya brings nearly 20 years of County experience with him, and is fluent in both Spanish and English. Peter J. McGinnity has over 15 years experience in the banking industry, and extensive experience planning and conducting presentations to both small and large groups. They join senior counselor Ruth Semple and administrative assistant Shaila Kelkar. Clients of the SBDC may also get assistance from the Small Business Loan Program, located within the SBDC.
Also located at the Rockville Regional Library is the library's Business Information Center, located adjacent to the SBDC, which provides extensive business research and reference materials and assistance.
The SBDC is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and is located in the Rockville Regional Library at 99 Maryland Avenue. For more information, call the SBDC at 240-777-2041 or the Rockville Regional Library at 240-777-0140.
