Duncan Announces Appreciation
Receptions for Local Postal Workers

Through a series of receptions announced today by County Executive Douglas M. Duncan, local residents will have an opportunity to express their appreciation to their neighborhood postal workers who now find themselves on the front lines of the anthrax exposures/threats in area post offices.

“We wanted to give local communities an opportunity to thank their postal workers who continue to do such a great job for us despite the uncertainty they face on a daily basis,” said Duncan.

At today’s reception hosted by the Mid-County Regional Service Center, more than 40 postal workers from the Wheaton branch of the Silver Spring post office were honored by elected officials, local business owners and community members. The following businesses donated food and beverages for the reception: Marchone’s Deli; Anatonia’s Trattoria; Saigonese; Yokohama; Elbe’s Beer & Wine; Kosher Pastry Oven; Ledo’s Pizza; Wooden Shoe Pastry Shoppe; El Bogueron; Ferdinands; Domino’s Pizza; Paul Key; Barnaby’s; El Pulgarcito; Max’s Deli; Nut House Pizza; Dusit Thai; Motomoroso; El Pollo Rico; Asian Market; Suporn Thai; Caribbean Food & Records; Dunkin Donuts; Marathon Deli; Sabangs Indonesian; Cinnabon; Cristina’s; China Bakery; Alekos Taverna; Anchor Inn; Hollywood East; Los Chorros; and Pollo Compero. Decorations were provided by Ellen Originals and paper goods were donated by Safeway.

Council members Derick Berlage and Marilyn Praisner presented Montgomery County lapel pins affixed with red, white and blue ribbons to each of the postal workers. Over the weekend, Westfield Shopping Town Wheaton displayed a large banner for shoppers to sign their individual messages to postal workers which was presented at today’s ceremony.

In coming months, Montgomery County will host receptions in all the service areas for local post offices. For more information, residents should contact the Regional Service Center in their area.
