Foulger-Pratt Companies Break
Ground on Rockville Metro Plaza I
County officials joined Rockville Mayor Rose G. Krasnow and Fouler-Pratt Companies Vice President Clayton F. Foulger in a groundbreaking ceremony today for Rockville Metro Plaza I. Located at 111 Rockville Pike, diagonally across from the Rockville Metro and Marc Rail station, Metro Plaza I will provide 228,000 square feet of office space in the center of downtown Rockville.
"The groundbreaking for Rockville Metro Plaza's first office building has been an eagerly anticipated event," said County Executive Douglas M. Duncan, "and the County looks forward to the development of this office complex by the Foulger-Pratt Companies. Downtown Rockville is a great location and I'm pleased that SAS Institute, Inc. has chosen to expand and grow, with plans to bring more than 75 new jobs to the County over the next three years."
"We are extremely excited to be here this morning to celebrate the groundbreaking of Rockville Metro Plaza I," said Clayton F. Foulger, vice president of the Foulger-Pratt Companies. "This building will be the first of three buildings that will comprise the 620,000 square foot Rockville Metro Plaza office complex that we are so proud to be developing here in Rockville."
"This groundbreaking represents a big leap forward for the successful redevelopment of Rockville's Town Center," said Rockville Mayor Rose G. Krasnow. "We know that local developer Foulger-Pratt will produce a quality building, and we are absolutely delighted that SAS Institute, Inc. has chosen to locate here. They are an outstanding, community-oriented company that will help us attract other desirable tenants to the downtown area. All of us in Rockville have waited a long time for this day."
Rockville Metro Plaza I, designed by The Weihe Design Group, will be an eleven story Class-A, precast and glass, commercial office building with six levels of parking and approximately 5,000 square feet of street-level retail. SAS Institute, Inc., of Cary, North Carolina, is the lead tenant with a lease of 50,000 square feet. SAS is the largest privately held software company in the world with annual sales in excess of one billion dollars.
Construction on the first building officially began with this morning's groundbreaking, and is scheduled for completion by summer 2002. Wachovia Bank, N.A., is providing construction financing. Insignia/ESG, Inc is providing leasing services.
