Local Author to Discuss, Sign
Book on Early Soviet, American Space Race
Garrett Park author Paul Dickson will discuss and sign his new book “Sputnik: The Shock of the Century” at the Wheaton Library on December 13 at 7 p.m. The library is located at 11701 Georgia Ave.
In his latest work, Dickson, who has authored more than 40 books, chronicles the dramatic events and developments leading up to and resulting from the launch of Sputnik, the first man-made object in space.
The book profiles the early American and Soviet space programs and presents a revised picture of the politics and personalities behind the early efforts of the U.S. to enter the space race. The work also presents Sputnik’s widespread impact – from the shift to science in the classroom and the competition to reach the Moon and the birth of the Internet.
Paul Dickson’s appearance is sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Montgomery County.
