Duncan Announces Major Contribution
To New Community Caring Fund
Benefiting Local Non-Profit Agencies
In September 11 Aftermath

Thanks to the generosity of a Montgomery County corporation, County Executive Douglas M. Duncan’s newly established Community Caring Fund received a major donation that will aid local non-profit organizations.

BAE SYSTEMS, with local facilities in Rockville, Gaithersburg and Silver Spring today presented the Executive with a check for $10,000 for the Community Caring Fund announced by Duncan in his recent State-of-the-County speech. The fund is designed to support local non-profit agencies recoup the loss of financial donations in the wake of the September 11 attacks.

“We commend BAE SYSTEMS for their major donation that has really helped jump start the fund. Their spirit of giving and sharing with their neighbors in Montgomery County represents the true spirit of the season,” Duncan said. “BAE SYSTEMS’ generosity will impact many lives throughout Montgomery County.”

Duncan accepted the check at the kick off of the Montgomery County Corporate Volunteer Council’s 2001-2002 Wish List Directory that enables businesses to select and donate to a non-profit or public agency that would benefit from financial support.

The event, held at Westfield Shoppingtown Montgomery, recognized selected businesses for their generosity in support of local agencies and provided an opportunity to present donations to their designated non-profit organizations.

BAE SYSTEMS North America is an international systems defense and aerospace prime contractor with domestic installations in 30 states and the District of Columbia, employing more than 22,000 persons in the United States.

In addition to BAE SYSTEMS, others businesses recognized were four area Fresh Fields Markets that donated more than $2,000 in goods to various agencies and Randy Denchfield of Denchfield Roofing who donated a new roof for Our House, a residential facility for at-risk adolescent boys.

Persons wishing to support the fund may send donations to: Community Caring Fund, c/o Montgomery County United way, 15245 Shady Grove Rd., Rockville, MD 20850.
