COUNTY PARTICIPATES IN ANNUAL
BLACK CHURCH WEEK OF PRAYER
FOR THE HEALING OF AIDS
Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is the leading cause of death for African Americans ages 25 to 44. The Black Church Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS is a vehicle for spiritual renewal, healing and AIDS education. This national event has become the largest AIDS awareness program targeting African Americans in the United States. The Black Church Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS is a national program of The Balm In Gilead, Inc., a national organization located in New York City.
Beginning with a special Sunday morning worship service, participating churches will host a series of programs related to AIDS issues. Churches can register their participation by calling 1-888-225-6243. Sponsors of the Black Church Week of Prayer for Healing of AIDS in the Washington, DC area include the African-American HIV Church Outreach Program of the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services and R.IG.H.T., Inc. in Washington, DC.
