Job/Volunteer Opportunities For Youth
Highlighted at Job/Activities Fair

Summer employment, volunteer and camp opportunities for youth between the ages of six and 22 will be featured at a jobs/activities fair to be held on March 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Gwendolyn E. Coffield Community Center, 2450 Lyttonsville Rd., Silver Spring.

Entitled "Silver Summer," the fair will provide information from more than two dozen sources on summer jobs, training programs, summer camps and volunteer openings available in Silver Spring. Staff from local businesses, non-profit and government agencies will be present to talk with participants and accept applications.

Included among the providers will be the YMCA; Maryland Job Corps; Fresh Fields/Whole Fields, Inc.; Manpower, Inc.; Jack & Jill of America; Montgomery College, College Corps, Inc.; Montgomery County Public Schools, Montgomery County Conservation Corps; Silver Spring Urban Crew and Service Corps; Montgomery Youth Works; Montgomery County Recreation Department; Montgomery County Volunteer Center; the American Red Cross; Coalition of 100 Black Women; Edison Technical High School; Bethesda and Silver Spring Youth Services; and the Silver Spring Boys & Girls Clubs.

Teens 14 and older can sign up for free job readiness training to be offered in the spring. Business professionals from various fields will present seminars on topics such as good work habits, resume writing, interview skills and personal presentation.

Also, for the first time, the Montgomery County Public Schools and the County's Volunteer Center will be available to distribute information on positions offering Volunteer Student Service Learning Credits.

The job/activities fair is sponsored by the Silver Spring Coalition and the Greater Rosemary Hills Human Resources Coalition.
