County Employee
Honored by Local Women's Organization

Tracy Stuger, the Legislative and Budget Specialist for the Montgomery County Commission for Women, has been selected as the 2001 Young Careerist by the Montgomery County Business and Professional Women's (MCBPW) organization.

BPW's Young Careerist Program recognizes the accomplishments of successful young women and men between the ages of 25 and 35.

In her current position, Stuger organizes the commission's annual Women's Legislative Briefing. She assists with the Women/Girls and technology project, as well as with the Women as Victims of Violent Crime and the Work and Women projects. She also edits the commission's newsletter and serves as staff liaison to the commission's Legislative Committee.

Stuger, who resides in Burtonsville, previously was a National Urban Fellow with the Points of Light Foundation in Washington, DC, where she managed the national training program within the Points of Light Institute.

Prior to that time, she served on Capitol Hill in the office of Congressman Louis Stokes, from Ohio's 11th Congressional District, as a conference coordinator for the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, as a Legislative Correspondent and a Legislative Assistant.

Stuger earned a BA degree in Public Relations/Journalism from Howard University and received a Master of Public Administration from Bernard Baruch College, CUNY, New York, NY.

She was nominated for the Young Careerist title by Judith Vaughan-Prather, executive director of the Commission for Women, who called Stuger "a most competent and effective professional."

In April, she will represent Montgomery County BPW in the Young Careerist competition to be held at the Maryland Federation of Business and Professional Women's State Convention in Frederick. The Maryland Young Careerist will represent the state at the BPW/USA National Conference to be held in July in Portland, OR.

Montgomery County BPW President Ruby Aridi said, "We are proud to have a young woman of Tracy's caliber as our Young Careerist. She will represent us well."

Montgomery County BPW is a not-for-profit, non-partisan, non-sectarian organization that provides opportunities for working women to upgrade their skills, helps expand business contacts through monthly meetings, and proposes and supports legislation of benefit to working women.
