Human Relations Commission Inducts
20 Residents into Human Rights Hall of Fame

The Montgomery County Human Relations Commission is holding its first Human Rights Hall of Fame ceremony on Thursday, March 15, at 6:30 p.m. The event will take place at Indian Spring Country Club, 13501 Layhill Road, Silver Spring.

Inductees into the Hall of Fame were nominated by the community and selected by a panel of judges, based on their exemplary leadership, achievement and lasting impact on housing, public accommodations and employment policies, as well as their impact on the social climate in Montgomery County's human rights movement.

This year's Hall of Fame inductees include: Bonnie Berger; Alan Dean; Lincoln Dring; Roger Farquhar; Isiah Leggett; Roscoe Nix; Silvia Rodriquez; Ruby Rubens; Eunice Shriver; Joyce Siegel; Jackie Simon; Carolyn Snowden; Judith Vaughan-Prather; William Wims; and Gladys Young. Posthumous inductees include: Norman Christeller; Charlie Gilchrist; Leonard Kapiloff; James C. Moone; and Edith Throckmorton.

Participating in the ceremony will be County Executive Douglas M. Duncan, County Councilmember Blair Ewing and Human Relations Commission Executive Director Odessa Shannon. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Frank H. Wu, a law professor and columnist who is currently serving as the director of the Howard University Legal Clinic.
