County Asks Groups To Help Compile List of
Earth Day Activities

The Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) wants to help publicize Earth Day this April by distributing information on special events and celebrations being held in the Washington metropolitan area. Community groups and organizations that would like their Earth Day activities included on the County's website and in a special Earth Day Action Kit are urged to contact DEP.

The Earth Day Action Kit will contain a variety of environmental tips, a list of Earth Day resources, and information about special events and classes for residents of all ages. Citizens can view the Earth Day Action Kit online or request a copy from DEP.

Organizations or groups sponsoring events should submit information by mid-March, and include the following:

· Name of the sponsoring organization;

· Name of the activity;

· A brief (30-words maximum) description of the activity;

· The full address of the location;

· The time of the activity and its duration;

· A contact person's name, telephone number, e-mail address, if available and fax number if available; and

· Registration information and/or fees, if applicable.

Provide information to DEP by calling Joe Keyser at 240-777-7770, faxing information to 240-777-7773, or e-mailing the information to calendar@askDEP.com. Maps and photos in electronic format will be accepted for possible inclusion.

For more information about Earth Day activities in Montgomery County, visit DEP's website starting in March at www.askDEP.com and click on the Earth Day 2001 icon.
