COUNTY ASSOCIATION GROUP
RELEASES SURVEY RESULTS
The Association Council of Montgomery County (ACMC), an advisory group to the Montgomery County Department of Economic Development (DED), today released the findings of a comprehensive survey sent to 350 associations located in Montgomery County.
Developed and executed by Association Research, Inc. of Rockville, the six-page, 31-question Needs Assessment Survey was designed to gauge the major concerns and needs of the County's fast growing association community.
Findings show that Montgomery County is the headquarters for nearly 96 percent of associations located here in the County, 70 percent of the associations have been located in the County for more than 10 years, 55 percent of association executives are female, nearly 80 percent are focused on individual membership, and more than 50 percent have international members. Results also showed that 57 percent of respondents were unaware of the ACMC and its activities.
"Associations represent a large and vital component of Montgomery County's business community," said David W. Edgerley, director of the Department of Economic Development. "We are committed to addressing and serving their business and development needs, which we can now better assess thanks to the valuable information gathered through this survey."
The ACMC provides leadership and recommendations on matters of concern to the County's association community. It was originally formed in 1992 as the Association Ambassador's Club, and changed its name to the Montgomery County Society for Associations in 1995. It became the ACMC in September 1999.
"The purpose of the ACMC is to promote useful and productive dialogue between the County's associations and public officials," said Robert Day, executive director of the Renewable Natural Resources Foundation and current ACMC Chair. "This survey gives us a blueprint for working with County officials to make Montgomery County even more attractive to professional, trade, and charitable associations and other nonprofits.
