County Seeks Volunteers For
Nursing Home Ombudsman Program
Persons interested in helping to enhance the quality of life for nursing home residents are invited to volunteer as long-term care advocates with the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, Aging and Disability Services. Ombudsmen representatives work to promote the highest quality of life for residents in nursing home settings and help to resolve problems. Recent recommendations from the Maryland Task Force on Quality of Care in Nursing Homes include strengthening consumer advocacy efforts.
This volunteer opportunity offers flexible daytime hours and autonomy in developing problem-solving strategies. Assignments are provided at nursing homes throughout Montgomery County. Training and technical assistance are provided by experienced professionals.
A 24-hour training session for volunteers will be held from March 27 through March 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Holiday Park Senior Center, 3950 Ferrara Drive, Wheaton. Participants will receive a comprehensive orientation to the aging process, nursing home systems, applicable laws and advocacy skills. Assignments are available throughout Montgomery County.
Class size is limited and registration is required. For more information, call Eileen Bennett at 240-777-1067.
