Duncan Selects Director of
Marketing for Economic Development
County Executive Douglas M. Duncan today named Edgar C. Grimm as director of marketing for the Department of Economic Development (DED). The director of marketing will work to promote the County's business leadership identity and to spotlight the County's competitive business advantages.
Grimm, who currently services as director of communications and marketing for the Bethesda Urban Partnership, will report to David Edgerley, director of DED. Prior to joining the Urban Partnership, he served as both an adjunct and assistant professor at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, where he taught courses in public relations, advertising, and mass media. Grimm also has more than 20 years of corporate media relations and marketing experience.
"Ed Grimm is a seasoned professional who brings more than 30 years of diverse marketing, management, communications, and teaching experience to the position of director of marketing," said Duncan. "His demonstrated leadership and related experience will be a tremendous asset to the Department of Economic Development and the County."
Grimm holds a master of arts degree in communications from the University of Maryland, College Park and a bachelor of arts degree in communications from Denison University in Granville, Ohio.
"Ed will be a valuable addition to the Department, helping further our marketing and business retention and attraction efforts," said David W. Edgerley, director of the Department of Economic Development. "He has a varied and impressive background which includes previous senior positions, teaching experience and consulting in areas such as public relations and strategic communications. We are delighted to have him join our team."
Grimm was selected after a national search that included more than 70 applicants. His appointment is subject to County Council approval.
The Department of Economic Development has a staff of 37 employees in divisions including business retention and development, small business services, agricultural services, and marketing. Their mission is to increase the County's tax revenue base by retaining and attracting quality companies in targeted industry sectors that will create well-paying jobs in the County.
