FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 10, 2002
Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan is seeking applicants to fill three partial term vacancies on the Montgomery County Animal Matters Hearing Board. One regular and one alternate vacancy must be filled by a Veterinarian or a Veterinary Technician. One vacancy is for a representative of recognized animal fanciers and breeders groups.
The board holds hearings to address complaints regarding animal-related nuisances and issues any orders necessary for abatement, is responsible for hearing and determining appeals regarding licenses have been denied or revoked by the Department of Police, Division of Animal Control and Humane Treatment, and makes recommendations concerning the operation of animal control facilities in the County.
There are 5 members and one alternate for each member in the following categories: a veterinarian or veterinary technician; representative of the Humane Society; and three public members. Members serve without compensation and are required to file annual financial disclosure statements.
Members attend an average of four meetings per month in the evenings to conduct hearings.
Applicants should write by May 3 to County Executive Douglas M. Duncan at the Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe Street, Rockville, Maryland 20850. A brief resume including home and work telephone numbers should be enclosed. Members of County boards, committees, and commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time.
Duncan's appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council. Applications of those selected for appointment are made public as part of the confirmation process.
