SEVERE SUMMER STORM AFTERMATH;
PUBLIC WORKS CLEANUP EFFORTS TO
CONTINUE THROUGH THE WEEK For Immediate Release: June 25,1996

     Montgomery County Department of Public Works and Transportation crews
will continue with tree and storm debris removal efforts in County
neighborhoods throughout the week. The damage is a result of yesterday's
severe weather. Currently, more than 200 workers and 75 to 100 pieces of
equipment are engaged in cleanup efforts. The crews are concentrated in the
most heavily damaged areas of the County -- Bethesda, Kensington, Potomac and
Silver Spring.
     Most of the damage reported in the County is related to fallen trees,
branches and power lines. At this time, approximately 8 to 10 roads remain
closed due to downed power and telephone lines.
     Public Works officials are asking residents to help facilitate tree and
debris cleanup by placing fallen tree limbs and branches at curbside for
pickup and removal. Crews will not enter private property to remove debris.
County residents are urged to call the Department of Public Works and
Transportation hotline at 217- 2159 for any questions about cleanup efforts.
