NEW CENTER AT SPRINGBROOK HIGH SCHOOL
TO PROVIDE TUTORS FOR STUDENTS;
VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT FOR 1996-97 SCHOOL YEAR         For Immediate Release: 8/2/96

     
     Volunteers are needed to tutor K-12 students on Saturday mornings,
beginning October 12, at the new Colesville/Silver Spring Center located at
Springbrook High School. 
     Organized by parents, teachers, and administrators in the Springbrook
cluster, the program targets all students in the Colesville and Silver Spring
areas and focuses on high academic achievement, Pan-African cultural
enrichment and mentoring.  It is operated under the auspices of the George B.
Thomas Sr. Learning Academy, Inc. Applications for students interested in the
program will be available at schools in the Springbrook cluster after August
15. 
     Volunteers will serve approximately 20 Saturdays during the 1996-97
school year. The student-to-tutor ratio will be 3-1. High School students
seeking to fulfill community service hours and others who wish to volunteer
