HISTORIAN, AUTHOR DUNLAP TO
DISCUSS HER BOOK ON WOMEN
IN THE FRONTIER WEST For Immediate Release: August 9, 1996
Author and historian Patricia Riley Dunlap will discuss her
recently published book, Riding Astride: The Frontier in Women's
History, on Tuesday, August 27, from 7-8:45 p.m. at the
Montgomery County Commission for Women's Counseling and Career
Center in Rockville. The center is located at 255 North
Washington Street, on the fourth floor of the Nations Bank
Building.
The book is an account of the eccentric and extraordinary
women of the frontier West who helped to break down the strict
social codes of the 19th century and transform American culture
with extreme and sometimes militant behavior. Dunlap, who is a
third-generation historian, is also an instructor of American
history and the history of American Women at Northern Virginia
Community College in Alexandria, Virginia and Germanna Community
College in Locust Grove, Virginia.
Admission to the seminar, sponsored by the Women's
Counseling and Career Center, is free, but registration is
required.
