COMMISSION FOR WOMEN PRESENTS
TELECONFERENCE WITH WHITE HOUSE
TO ASSESS PROGRESS SINCE LAST YEAR'S 
WORLD CONFERENCE ON WOMEN          For Immediate Release: September 13, 1966


     The Montgomery County Commission for Women, in cooperation with the
President's Interagency Council on Women, will hold "America's Commitment: The
U.N. Women's Conference One Year Later" September 28 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
at the Natcher Conference Center, National Institutes of Health Campus,
Bethesda.  
     The program will offer participants the opportunity to join forces with
women nationwide to assess the progress made since the 1995 World Conference
on Women in Beijing, and develop a national action agenda to further the
status of both women and girls.
     Keynote speaker Carmen Delgado Votaw, director of government relations
for the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., will open the program at 9 a.m.
     The day's program will include a morning session of workshops addressing
the issues of women's health, the economy and employment, violence against
women, and education. A luncheon plenary session will feature a discussion on
international women's issues, followed by a live, interactive satellite
broadcast from The White House linking "America's Commitment" with other
similar programs in communities across the country.
     Free parking is available on the NIH campus and the Natcher Center is
easily accessible to Metro (Red Line -- Medical Center Station).

     The registration fee, which will include a continental breakfast and box
lunch, is $20; $10 for students. Space for the program is limited. For
