ALTERNATE POLLING PLACES
FOR VOTERS WITH DISABILITIES For Immediate Release: September 11, 1996

Registered voters with disabilities who live in precincts where polling
places are not accessible because of structural barriers, may apply for
reassignment to an alternate polling location. Voters should check their
Voter Notification Card for accessibility status.
Maryland Election law requires that an application for reassignment be
made to the elections office no later than 9 p.m. on October 7 (four weeks
prior to the Presidential General Election on November 5). For information on
polling place accessibility or to request an application, call the Montgomery
County Supervisors of Elections at 217-6450. Election officials urge voters
to submit requests as soon as possible.
Reassignment is permitted by law if there is a barrier-free polling
place in a precinct which uses the same ballot as the one in which the voter
resides. If a satisfactory substitute polling place is not available, or if
the voter does not wish to be reassigned, voting by absentee ballot is an
alternative. The deadline for receipt of an application for an absentee
ballot is October 29. For information on absentee voting, call 217-6460.
The Board of Supervisors of Elections for Montgomery County is located
at 751 Twinbrook Parkway in Rockville.
