VOTER REGISTRATION SITES      For Immediate Release: Sept. 12, 1996


     Montgomery County's Board of Supervisors of Elections is expanding 
voter registration locations and times for persons wishing to vote in the
November 5 General Election. The deadline for registration is 9 p.m. on
October 7.
     To register to vote, persons must be legal U.S. citizens and reside in
Montgomery County, and they must be at least 18 years of age by the general
election on or before November 5, 1996,  Also, residents cannot register if
they have been convicted (without pardon) more than once for an infamous crime
or they are under guardianship for a mental disability.      
     Beginning September 26, residents may register at the following
locations and times:
     o    Gaithersburg Library (first floor lobby)
          Olney Library (ground-floor large meeting room)  
          September 26, October 3 and 7, 6:00 to 8:30 p.m.; September 28 and
          October 5, 1 to 5 p.m.

     o    Wheaton Plaza (inside mall next to J.C. Penney and Montgomery
          Ward)
          September 26 and 27, and October 3, 4 and 7, 6:30 to 9 p.m.;
          September 28 and October 5, 1 to 5 p.m.

     o    Montgomery Mall (street level in Center Court behind the Customer
          Service Center)
          September 26 and 27, and October 3, 4 and 7, 6:30 to 9 p.m.;
          September 28 and October 5, 1 to 5 p.m.

     o    Upcounty Regional Services Center (first floor main lobby in Room
          C)  September 26 and 27, October 3, 4 and 7, 6:30 to 9 p.m.;
          September 28 and October 5, 1 to 5 p.m.

     o    White Oak Sears Store (in the women's department on the main level
          by the escalator)
          September 26 and 27 and October 3, 4 and 7, 6:30 to 9 p.m.;
          September 28 and October 5, 1 to 5 p.m.
          
          Board of Elections (Rockville)
          Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
          September 28 and October 5, 1 to 5 p.m.
          October 7, 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

     
     Voter applications may be obtained by calling the Voter Information
Service at 217-VOTE. Applications are also available at Montgomery College; 
Montgomery County public libraries; regional service centers in Silver Spring,
Bethesda, Germantown and Wheaton; all County health and human services
centers; the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration; and U.S. Post Offices. 
     Voters may choose to affiliate with one of the recognized political
parties in the State -- Democratic, Republican, Libertarian, Taxpayers,
Reform, and Natural-Law -- or may decline to affiliate with any of the
recognized parties.  Voters are reminded that it is not necessary to be
affiliated with any party to be qualified to vote in the upcoming general
election.
     Persons who have moved since the last election must notify the election
office no later than 9 p.m. on October 7 in order to be eligible to vote in
the correct polling place. 
     The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors of Elections is located at
751 Twinbrook Parkway in Rockville.
