ABSENTEE BALLOT REQUESTS      For Immediate Release:  September 12, 1996


     Registered voters in Montgomery County who are eligible to vote by
absentee ballot in the November 5 Presidential General Election have until
October 29 to obtain an application for an absentee ballot.
     Voters can obtain an application by mail by calling the 24-hour absentee
voting information line at 217-6480 and leaving a message, with their name and
full address. 
     Individuals may vote by absentee ballot if they meet any of the
following criteria:
     o will be absent from the County on election day;
     o are ill, disabled, or confined to a hospital, nursing home or other
institution;
     o are age 65 or older and their polling place is designated as non-
accessible to the elderly or disabled.
     Certain federal government and armed forces personnel may also vote by
absentee ballot.
     For more information, call the Absentee Office, Monday through Friday
from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 217-6460.
