STATE RESTORES MONEY
FOR COUNTY SUBSTANCE ABUSE
PROGRAMS For Immediate Release: September 17, 1996

At the urging of Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan, the
State of Maryland has restored $100,000 in grant funding that had been
originally removed from the County's substance abuse outpatient services
budget for fiscal year 1997.
The money, which comes from the State's Alcohol and Drug Abuse
Administration, was budgeted for use in providing outpatient services and case
management for County residents.
After learning that the money had been eliminated, Duncan wrote to the
Governor asking that the funds be restored. County health and human service
officials recently learned that the money would be restored in a letter from
the director of the State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
