SHORT APPOINTED
TO NATIONAL STEERING
COMMITTEE For Immediate Release: October 11, 1996

Montgomery County's Director of Health and Human Services, Charles
Short, has been appointed to the National Association of Counties' (NACo)
Human Services and Education Steering Committee by NACo President Michael
Hightower.
The NACo Human Services and Education Steering Committee reviews county
legislative matters such as welfare reform, domestic violence and other
nationwide issues affecting the association and its members. The committee
makes recommendations to NACo's leadership, and if approved, the committee's
recommendations become part of the American County Platform, which guides NACo
in representing counties to Congress and the White House.
NACo is the only national organization representing county governments
in the United States. Its goals are to improve county government, act as a
liaison with other levels of government and advance public understanding of
the role of counties.
