COUNTY LAUNCHES NEXT PHASE
MD 118 RELOCATED PROJECT For Immediate Release: Oct. 16, 1996

Montgomery County officials today broke ground to launch the newest
phase of the MD Route 118 relocation project in Germantown, a project which
will realign the segment of MD 118 from Wisteria Drive to Clopper Road.
Slated for completion by late 1998, the new alignment will replace the
current two-lane road with a new six-lane roadway. It includes construction
of a new bridge over the CSX railroad tracks. In addition, a 3,300-foot
section of Clopper Road will be constructed as a six-lane divided highway.
Also, Dawson Farm Road will be extended as a four-lane, undivided roadway from
existing MD 118 to Tilford Way.
The $27.7 million project includes $17.4 million in County funding, $8.6
million in State funds and $1.7 million from local developers.
An earlier portion of the MD 118 relocation project, which realigned the
segment between I-270 and MD Route 355, was completed in 1993. Local
developers also funded and built a section between I-270 and Wisteria Drive.
