COUNTY OPENS NEW I-270
INTERCHANGE IN GERMANTOWN For Immediate Release: Oct. 21, 1996
Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan, County Council President Gail Ewing, Congresswoman Connie Morella, State Transportation Secretary David Winstead and a host of other officials today celebrated the completion of the newest I-270 interchange, north of MD Route 118, at Father Hurley Boulevard in Germantown.
The $24.3 million project, one of the largest ever undertaken by Montgomery County's Department of Public Works and Transportation, provides convenient access for Germantown area residents north of MD Route 118 and a direct connection to MD Route 27 and Damascus. West of I-270, the road to which the interchange connects is Father Hurley Boulevard. East of I-270, it becomes Ridge Road (MD Route 27).
"This was an ambitious project by any standard and certainly as one for a local government to undertake," said Duncan. "The opening of this interchange, combined with the current effort to widen I-270 in the upcounty area, will be a tremendous help to commuters."

FATHER HURLEY BLVD. INTERCHANGE OPENS 2-2-2
Father Hurley Boulevard has been extended as a six-lane, divided roadway for 4,300', from Crystal Rock Drive to the eastern end of the interchange with I-270, at which point the road becomes Ridge Road. An eight-foot, asphalt bike path has been constructed on the north side of the Father Hurley Boulevard/Ridge Road extension and a five-foot, concrete sidewalk on the south side.
Nearly $13 million of the total $24.3 million cost of the Father Hurley Boulevard interchange project was paid for by local developer contributions and development impact taxes.
