"GIVE AND RIDE" FOOD DRIVE
STARTS NOVEMBER 18 For Immediate Release: Nov. 1, 1996
Ride On Bus riders can help needy families this holiday season with a
donation of canned or nonperishable food and, in exchange, get a free bus
ride. Ride On's 10th annual "Give and Ride" food drive will run from Monday,
November 18 through Sunday, November 24.
All donations of canned or nonperishable foods will be sent to the Manna
Food Center, Inc., the County's official food distribution arm.
"No child should go hungry in our community," said Carolyn Biggins,
Chief of the Division of Transit Services, which operates the Ride On bus
system. "Last year our riders generously donated more than six tons of food.
This year we need again to make the holiday season happier and healthier for
all of our neighbors. We hope our riders will give generously."
Food collection bags will be placed near the fare box on all Ride On
buses. In exchange for a food donation, passengers will ride the bus for
free.
All food donations, whether one or more cans, will be valued at the peak
fare of $1.10. A transfer will be issued upon request. Riders who wish to
buy a Maryland Mover All-Day Transfer will need to add $1.40 to the fare box
during rush hour or 40 cents at all other times.
Residents who do not ride the bus but wish to donate food items can
participate by giving their donation to the bus operator at any Ride On bus
