Responsibility for administering the Benefit Performance License Program
was recently transferred to the County's new Department of Permitting
Services. The program regulates fund-raising events sponsored by non-profit
organizations. Organizations are reminded that a license is required for each
benefit performance that they conduct.
Benefit performances are considered to be "any outdoor or indoor
carnival. fair, picnic, dance, card party, bazaar, concert, contest, horse
show, exhibition, lecture, barbecue or dinner, to which the public is invited
or admitted with or without charge for such admission, the net proceeds of
which benefit performance shall . be donated to the sponsoring organization."
A license application must be submitted prior to holding a benefit
performance. Application forms are available from the Department of
Permitting Services, located on the second floor at 250 Hungerford Drive in
Rockville.
