POLICE DEPARTMENT SEEKS VOLUNTEER
INTERPRETERS AND TRANSLATORS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 1, 1996
Spanish-speaking individuals who are interested in assisting the
Montgomery County Police Department with interpretation and translation are
encouraged to volunteer with the Pro Bono Program and sign up for the November
training classes. The classes will be held November 7, 14 and 21, from 6 to
8:30 p.m. at the Public Services Training Academy, 10025 Darnestown Road in
Rockville. The program is sponsored jointly with the Montgomery County, Md.,
Bar Foundation, Inc., the Hispanic Bar Association and the Hispanic Alliance.
Volunteers must be fluent in English and Spanish; be able to learn
court, police and legal concepts and terminology; have at least a high school
education; be willing to commit to one year of volunteer service; and must
pass an oral and written examination.
The training classes include an overview of civil law, criminal law, the
court system, police department procedures, legal terminology and ethics of
interpretation.
