NEW STEERING COMMITTEE WORKS TO
DEVELOP TECHNOLOGY STRATEGY
AND ENHANCE SERVICES TO CITIZENS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 12, 1996
A project to coordinate Montgomery County's planning and budgeting for
information technology -- which includes telephones, wireless communication
systems and computers -- will be assisted by a new steering committee that met
last week in preparation for an intensive, all-day planning session on
November 22.
The committee, appointed recently by Chief Administrative Officer Bruce
Romer, is composed of individuals representing both public and private
organizations. The group will help develop the Horizon 21 strategic
information technology plan for the county government, helping decision-makers
to make choices that will best meet the needs of residents. A technology
survey is currently being conducted on the Montgomery County home page on the
internet (http://www.co.mo.md.us) to help gather public input. A strategic
plan report will be produced in the summer of 1997.
The steering committee is chaired by Montgomery County Chief
Administrative Officer Bruce Romer. The vice-chairs are Lawrence A. Shulman,
partner of the law firm of Shulman, Rogers, Gandal, Pordy & Ecker, and Donald
V. Evans, Director, Department of Information Systems & Telecommunications.
Private sector representatives include Jon L. Bearde, Vice President,
