RIDE ON BUS SYSTEM'S
MURAL CONTEST OPEN TO
SIXTH GRADE ART STUDENTS For Immediate Release: Nov. 15, 1996

Sixth-grade students from Montgomery County public and private schools
are invited to enter the Ride On bus system's 11th annual mural contest.
Aimed at increasing awareness of transportation choices and
environmental issues, the contest is an integral part of the County's
celebration of Earth Day and National Transportation Week.
Entries must be created by students and should be no larger than six
feet wide and three feet high. The murals should depict at least two or more
people riding together in some form of mass transportation. They should also
feature the hand-lettered words: Ride On.
The first place class will receive an escorted field trip on a Ride On
bus. Past field trips have been to the Goddard Space Flight Center, the U.S.
Naval Academy and the Air Show at Andrews Air Force Base. Specially printed
bus cards showing the winning mural and a photograph of the students who
created the mural will be displayed on Ride On buses in May, June and July.
Second and third place winners will receive certificates of achievement and
other awards.
All murals are due by February 3, 1997, at the Division of Transit
Services, 110 N. Washington Street, Rockville, MD 20850. For more
information, contact the Division of Transit Services' marketing unit at
217-2184.
