TAXICAB RIDE ON
HOME PROGRAM For Immediate Release (December 2, 1996)
Montgomery County's Ride On bus service, in cooperation with taxicab
companies in the county, is launching a new "Taxicab Ride On Home" program to
link bus passengers with taxicab service.
The program will provide advance courtesy calls relayed from Ride On
buses to County licensed taxicab companies, so that Ride On passengers can
take taxicabs from the bus stops to their final destinations. "Taxicab Ride
On Home" is expected to be particularly useful during inclement weather when
walking may be difficult or when pedestrians are concerned about their safety.
To receive this service, as soon as bus passengers board the bus they
should inform the operator that they will need a taxicab. Passengers should
tell the operator where they will be getting off the bus and where their final
destination will be. The operator will relay this information to Ride On's
Central Dispatch Center, which will call one of the taxicab companies licensed
by the County. There is no charge for the call, but passengers are
responsible for paying the taxicab fare.
"The 'Taxicab Ride On Home' program is additional recognition that
transit and taxicab service both fulfill important transportation needs in
this County," said Carolyn Biggins, Ride On's Transit Chief. "The program
(more)
2-2-2
will enhance customer service for the riding public by making transit more
convenient and providing a safer environment for passengers, especially during
the late evenings and winter months when it gets dark early." Taxicab
companies licensed by the county and participating in the program are Action
Taxi, All County Cab, Barwood Cab, Regency Cab and Montgomery Taxi Cab.
Bus cards will be posted on all Ride On buses that explain the program
in English and Spanish. Additional information is available by calling the
Transit Information Center at (301) 217-7433, TD/TTY (301) 217-2222.
