DUNCAN SEEKS APPLICANTS FOR
MONTGOMERY SOIL CONSERVATION DISTRICT
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS For Immediate Release (Dec. 4, 1996)
County Executive Douglas M. Duncan is seeking applicants to fill one
vacancy on the Montgomery Soil Conservation District Board of Supervisors.
The Board is composed of five members. The other four members are
appointed by the Maryland State Soil Conservation Committee. Those four serve
for five-year terms; the individual appointed by the County Executive has an
undefined term. All members must be residents of Montgomery County, and they
must be able to attend monthly meetings. Meetings are generally held the
second Friday of the month at 9 a.m. in Derwood.
Individuals with a knowledge of and sincere interest in proper land use
and the conservation of soil, water and related natural resources are
encouraged to apply. A supervisor does not receive a salary but is entitled to
a per diem allowance, currently $25 per meeting, and expenses based on State
budget criteria.
Each person appointed as a Soil Conservation District supervisor is
considered to be the holder of an office of profit created by State law. State
law prohibits any person from holding two such offices at the same time.
Additionally, each supervisor is required to take an Oath of Office before the
Clerk of the Circuit Court.
Interested citizens should apply in writing by December 27 to County
Executive Douglas M. Duncan at the Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe
Street, Rockville, Maryland 20850. A brief resume, including work and home
SOIL 2-2-2-2
phone numbers, should be enclosed. Members of County boards, committees and
commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time.
Duncan's appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council.
Applications of those selected for appointment are made public as part of the
confirmation process.
