WORKSHOPS SET
ON PROPERTY 
ASSESSMENTS, APPEALS                For Immediate Release:  Jan. 14, 1997

     Montgomery County residents who want to learn more about Maryland's
property tax assessment and appeals processes are invited to attend one of two
workshops scheduled in January and February.
     Sponsored by the County's department of Finance, the workshops will be
held on January 30 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. and on February 4 from 10:30 a.m. to
noon in the lobby level auditorium of the Executive office Building, 101
Monroe Street, Rockville.
     Assessment notices were mailed in December to residential property
owners in election district 1 (Laytonsville), part of election district 4
(Rockville), 5 (Colesville, White Oak), part of 8 (Olney) and 9
(Gaithersburg).  Notices were also issued to owners of commercial and
condominium properties in election district 4 (Rockville) and 9
(Gaithersburg).
     Property owners who believe that an appeal is warranted have 45 days
from the date of the assessment to file an appeal with the State Supervisor of
Assessments for Montgomery County.
     Seating at the workshops is available on a first-come, first-served
basis.
