COUNTY INVITES RESIDENTS
TO "GET IN THE LOOP,"
BUY RECYCLED GOODS For Immediate Release: April 4, 1997
The Montgomery County Division of Solid Waste Services encourages residents to
become aware of and purchase recycled goods under a new educational campaign co-
sponsored by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments and a group of nine other
local businesses and organizations.
The goal of the "Get in the Loop" Buy Recycled Campaign is to educate consumers
about recycled products and packaging and to increase the retail sales of recycled products
and packaging. The campaign will run from April 23 to May 23.
Five retail outlets in the metropolitan area will display 30 to 50 products per store that
will carry special shelf tags that identify them as products made with recycled
materialscontents or a recycled-content package. The outlets are: CVS, Fresh Fields, Giant
Food, The Home Depot and Staples (office supplies).
"We heartily support this effort which helps acquaint the public with recycled goods
and promotes the benefits of purchasing such items," said Esther Bowring, Recycling
planner for the Division of Solid Waste Services. "The program complements our on-
