LONG BRANCH COMMUNITY LIBRARY
TO CELEBRATE 20TH ANNIVERSARY;
NEW SERVICES/PROGRAMS INTRODUCED For Immediate Release: April 4, 1997
The public is invited to attend festivities celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Long
Branch Library on April 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Activities will include a talk and autograph session at 10 a.m. by Valerie Tripp, one
author in The American Girls Collection; a book sale from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.; and
demonstrations of the library's new CD ROM system and "Everybody's" catalogue which will
provide graphical interface of information for patrons.
A special display of approximately 30 art pieces by renowned local sculptor/artist
Phillip Ratner will also be unveiled. The works portray his "New Zoo" animals and also
include illustrations of traditional fairy tale characters.
Local officials including County Executive Douglas M. Duncan, County Council
Vice President Isiah Leggett and Councilmember Derick Berlage and 4th District
Congressman Albert Wynn, will participate in ceremonies at 11 a.m.
The Friends of the Library of Montgomery County will present a check to kick off the
Born to Read program at Long Branch. Born to Read teaches parents and those who care for

infants and young children -- from birth through 18 months -- to encourage and foster early
language skills using books, rhymes, simple stories, music and activities designed to stimulate
language development for reading.
